The winds of new beginnings

After three months, I'm back with updates from Cambodia. I stopped online teaching to become a school director at Kulen Outreach, found a new home, and recharged my blog with fresh motivation.

“When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills.” – Chinese proverb.

It's been nearly three months since my last blog post. My last online life update. For all you know, I'm still teaching online, still in Cambodia, and still having adventures with family and friends visiting.

Well, let me state the obvious for a second. Life happens at a quick pace. I imagine this holds truth for everyone. A lot has happened since my last blog post, a lot to catch you up on.

So let me start again, right where I left off, with renewed personal motivation, to grasp and better remember everything that happened and is happening here in my life, and external motivation for you, my reader. When I visited Belgium, which I'll update you on in later a phase, multiple people asked me about my blog, when I would continue, and why I stopped. I felt humbled and quite surprised - heart warmed even, since I hadn't realized that so many people actively read and even waited for my posts to come.

Recharged and ready to start again, I'll blow new life into my website and write about life, starting with extensive updates and catching you up on everything that has happened, in-depth in blog posts yet to come.

A recap of the past few months

A rundown of everything that happened from where I left off to where we are now.

  • The last thing you know is that Mathieu visited and we explored the temple area together. During this time, Summer was volunteering at Kulen Outreach, the school where Kiki worked as an English teacher.
  • A lot of things happened at the NGO where I was a former volunteer. One of the founders came over and decided the school needed a fresh wind, and new ideas, with an eye on the future.
  • Kiki and I got the opportunity to become school directors. Which we accepted - I was still teaching online at the time and searched for a balance until I stopped teaching online altogether.
  • My family visited and got to experience everything that was happening firsthand.
  • We hired new staff, started with a clean slate, went to Belgium to set up international relations, and visited friends and family.
  • Once back in Cambodia, we found a small house, a new place to stay. Our new home.
  • We went back to the school at long last, recharged, and ready to face all that came on our path head-on!

Long story short; I had the choice to keep on teaching online, something I really liked, and help people reach their language goals from afar. Or I could help kids and young adults that really needed my help, in a place where I could make a world of difference to people who would really appreciate it in ways I cannot even grasp.

I chose to leave behind my growing online business, to head the call. I built windmills instead of walls and have not regretted it for a second. It gives me more pleasure and fulfillment than I have ever experienced before.

Let me pick up the thread, and tell you all about what came to pass and what is going to happen next.
